Here Is The New Coaching Staff Of RCB For IPL 2024 – AB de Villiers There As Well?-TGN

Here Is The New Coaching Staff Of RCB For IPL 2024: Former Zimbabwe captain and respected coach Andy Flower is set to replace Mike Hesson as the director of cricket at Royal Challengers Bangalore. Following a sixth-placed finish in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), RCB is keen on a radical overhaul of its backroom staff. The franchise’s hunt for silverware remains elusive.

As per a report by Cricbuzz, negotiations are in the advanced stages to bring Flower on board. The addition of AB de Villiers as a mentor is another significant move under consideration. Flower held the reins of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as head coach for the past two seasons, guiding them to the playoffs on both occasions. However, the two parties recently parted ways, paving the way for Justin Langer, the former Australian opener, to step in as LSG’s new head coach.

Flower’s coaching career spans international teams and franchises worldwide. He recently served as a batting consultant for Australia in the Ashes series. Talks were also underway with Rajasthan Royals (RR), but it seems Bangalore is the likely destination for the skilled coach starting from the 2024 season.

Meanwhile, AB de Villiers, who shares a deep bond with Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis from his playing days, was inducted into the RCB Hall of Fame with Chris Gayle earlier this year. The South African star has previously expressed interest in continuing his association with RCB in various roles.

Mike Hesson’s tenure witnessed a significant upturn in RCB’s fortunes, especially after a challenging phase when they ended last twice in three seasons. From 2020 onwards, RCB qualified for the playoffs thrice consecutively, though the coveted trophy remained out of reach.

The 2023 season saw RCB just short of a playoff berth. A final league-stage match defeat, courtesy of Shubman Gill’s brilliance for Gujarat Titans (GT), culminated in a sixth-place finish. This result ramped up pressure on Mike Hesson and head coach Sanjay Bangar.

Given the circumstances, it was unlikely that Bangalore management would stick with the current duo. They have underscored the need for fresh ideas to propel the franchise forward. Additionally, the fate of bowling coach Adam Griffith remains uncertain as the team seeks a new direction.
