Damien Martyn trolled Joe Root with a hilarious one-liner on Twitter -TGN

Former England Test captain and star batsman Joe Root is being hounded left, right and center all over social media for his recent comments about adjusting the timing rules of Test cricket to adapt to overs lost to rain.

Australia retained the Ashes Urn on Sunday in the ongoing Ashes 2023 series as the 4th Test in Manchester ended in a draw. The series is now 2-1 after 4 Tests, with Australia now getting their first chance to win the Ashes series in England since 2001 when they play in the 5th and final Test at The Oval later this week.

England had dominated the Manchester Test, but rain played a spoilsport and robbed them of their chance of victory. Only 30 overs were possible on Day 4 on Saturday and not a single ball was bowled on Day 5 on Sunday. Heading into Day 5, Australia trailed by 61 runs in their second innings and held 5 wickets. With no rain from the last two days, England would have had a good chance of victory, but the rain gods didn’t budge, especially on Day 5.

Ahead of the day 5 match, Joe Root spoke to BBC’s Test Match Special program where he suggested play should go on until light, even if it means extending it to 10pm. Joe Root asked why there isn’t more flexibility in the schedule to ensure overs aren’t lost to rain and slow overspeeds.

“It doesn’t get dark until 10pm in the summer here in England, why can’t we just play until we’ve bowled the overs?” Carrot asked.

“There has been a lot of talk about not bowling the overs. There are so many different ways to find opportunities to play with as much as possible. At every opportunity at every stage, you must look for ways to face the test. We batted in worse conditions in Edgbaston, but that’s cricket. You just want consistency in those circumstances.

For the inexperienced: on a day of 90 overs cricket in England, the scheduled finish is at 6pm. An extra half hour is set aside to accommodate rain and delays in the event of slow overruns.

Damien Martyn Hilariously Trolled Joe Root For Suggesting Play Until 10pm

Former Australia batsman Damien Martin saw this comment from Joe Root about extending the game to 10pm and wasn’t impressed with Root’s suggestion. He even pranked Root and the English for such a suggestion by saying that it is the English who made the rules of cricket.
