Doctor Who Actor Compares Special Episodes To Weeping Angels, Says They’re “Full Of Scares” -TGN

Summary

  • Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary will feature scary episodes with a good balance of fear and fun, according to Yasmin Finney.

  • The specials will introduce the adorable yet sinister villain Beep the Meep and, it’s heavily theorized, the powerful Celestial Toymaker.

  • The return of beloved characters, like Donna, and the possibility of a tragic fate add to the anticipation of the terrifying anniversary specials.

Yasmin Finney teases the terrors of Doctor Who‘s special 60th anniversary episodes, claiming that they’re “full of scares.” The Heartstopper star will join David Tennant and Catherine Tate for Doctor Who‘s upcoming milestone in late 2023. Finney will portray a new character named Rose who is caught up in an alien incursion that Tennant’s mysterious Fourteenth Doctor has set out to put a stop to.

As Doctor Who‘s 60th anniversary draws closer, Finney teased the three special episodes in an interview Elle (conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike), revealing that the specials could be full of more scares than audiences may be anticipating. Comparing the specials’ frights to the Weeping Angel’s debut in the season 3 episode “Blink,” the star promised that the Doctor Who anniversary will strike a good balance between fear and fun. Check out Finney’s full response below:

You can look forward to a lot of scary things. I think when you think of Doctor Who, you think of the scariest episode, the weeping angels. It’s the scariest episode in history and the most popular. I think in this series, I was scared when I saw some of the things. It’s shivers down your spine. But, I can’t tell you too much. What I can say is it is going to be full of scares, full of laughs, full of all of it. To act with Ncuti Gatwa is just amazing because we are both very young as well, and it’s just really nice to have that. He’s making history literally, and I’m just really happy to be a part of his world.

What Monsters Will The Fourteenth Doctor Face In Doctor Who’s 60th Anniversary Specials?

In Doctor Who‘s 60th anniversary, the Fourteenth Doctor will face a number of foes both new and old. A surprising monster making its television debut in the first special is Doctor Who comic strip villain Beep the Meep, a deceptively adorable furry creature with cruel intentions who faced Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor. While Beep may seem like a harmless furry friend, the insectoid Wraith Warriors pursuing him are less approachable. Teasers for the Doctor Who 60th anniversary have shown a pair wreaking havoc on the streets of London in battle with UNIT forces.

Another confirmed foe in the Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials is Neil Patrick Harris’ mysterious character, an enigmatic figure who dons many distinct costumes and takes glee in sowing chaos among the people of Earth. While his character is currently unknown, it is speculated Harris is playing the Celestial Toymaker, a being of immense power who trapped people in twisted children’s games for his own amusement. The character’s potential return would leave the Fourteenth Doctor facing an immensely powerful foe unlike no other who can twist reality at will.

With Finney teasing a terrifying time for Doctor Who, this raises questions about what this could mean for beloved returning characters. While Donna (Tate) and the Fourteenth Doctor’s reunion is an exciting prospect, showrunner Russell T Davies’ tease of a tragic fate for her is more unsettling following Finney’s comments of terror and scares. The three Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials hold the answers, and they just might end up being scarier than the Weeping Angels.
