Former Indian cricket star slammed Harmanpreet Kaur for her conduct against Bangladesh team -TGN

The ODI series between India and Bangladesh ended on a bitter note as a series of controversial events took place during and after the third ODI match at Mirpur. Harmanpreet Kaur, captain of the Indian women’s team, has been criticized from all sides.

During the third ODI match, the score was 160-3 as Nahida Akter (3-37) trapped Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur leg-fore. Unhappy with the decision, Harmanpreet Kaur in anger smashed the stumps with her bat before leaving. She was also seen expressing her disappointment by directing words to the referee on the field as she went back to the pavilion.

It’s not, Kaur didn’t hold back during the post-match presentation: “The kind of refereeing that happened there, we were very surprised. The next time we come to Bangladesh, we will have to make sure we face these kind of referees and prepare for it.”

Even during the post-game photo shoot, when both teams came out, Kaur shouted at the organizers to “bring the umpires.” She had hinted that the referees are part of the Bangladesh team. The incident was not well received by the captain of Bangladesh Nigar Sultana, who ran off with her team. She criticized Kaur’s behaviour, saying:

It’s all her (Kaur’s) problem. I have nothing to do with it. As a player, she could have shown better manners. I can’t tell you what happened, but it didn’t feel right to be there with my team. It was not the right environment. That’s why we went back. Cricket is a game of discipline and respect.”

She added: “The referees (Muhammad Kamruzzaman and Tanvir Ahmed) would not issue her if she was not out… We respected their decisions. The referee’s decision is the final decision whether I like it or not. Why didn’t we behave like that?”

Meanwhile, according to reports, Indian women captain Harmanpreet Kaur is fined 75 per cent of match money for her scuffle with the referees during India Women vs Bangladesh Women’s 3rd ODI in Dhaka. In addition to fines, Kaur also receives four demerit points for her behavior.

The incident has become one of the most talked about topics in the Indian cricket fraternity with several pundits and cricketers berating the Indian captain for her bad behaviour. Among many, the legend Madan Lal, who was part of the 1983 World Cup winning team, also took to his social media and urged the BCCI to take strict action against her. He wrote:

Harmanpreet’s behavior towards Bangladesh women’s team was pathetic. She is no bigger than the game. She got a really bad name for Indian cricket. BCCI should take very strict disciplinary action.”
