Harry Potter Cosplay Sees Make-Up Artist Turn Herself Into Strikingly Recognizable Sirius Black-TGN

Summary

  • A talented makeup artist has shared a new post of her transformation into Gary Oldman’s Sirius Black in a stunning Harry Potter cosplay.

  • The cosplay recreates Sirius’ mugshot look as featured in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

  • The Harry Potter cosplay also raises interesting questions regarding how the story would change if Sirius Black was a woman instead of a man.

A talented makeup artist transforms herself into Gary Oldman’s Sirius Black in an impressive new Harry Potter cosplay. Based on the beloved novel series by author J.K. Rowling, the world of Harry Potter was first brought to life on film in 2001. In addition to Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry, Rupert Grint’s Ron, and Emma Watson’s Hermione, the eight movies in the mainline series introduce a number of memorable supporting characters, including Oldman’s Sirius, Harry’s godfather.

Now, a stunning new cosplay shared by Анастасия Рогочая on Instagram features the makeup artist recreating Sirius’ Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban mugshot look. Check out the striking cosplay below:

Using makeup, the artist stunningly recreates Oldman’s appearance from the franchise, including even the actor’s beard. The cosplay is topped off, of course, with a recreation of the film’s Azkaban Prison placard prop.

Would A Female Sirius Black Work In Harry Potter?

While the talented artist featured above specifically recreates Oldman’s look as Sirius, the cosplay raises an interesting question regarding whether a female version of the character would work in a future incarnation of the franchise. Sirius is introduced in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, but would also appear very briefly in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and then more prominently in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Sirius is at first presented as an antagonist, but it’s later revealed that this is all a misunderstanding and that he actually cares a great deal for Harry. He goes on to serve as a mentor to Radcliffe’s character in his final two movies before losing his life in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Purely from a dramatic function point of view, there’s no real reason why Sirius couldn’t be a woman in the world of the films, with a female version of the character able to serve a similar storytelling purpose.

Of course, there’s a fair argument to be made that this might change Harry’s father, James, somewhat, with his all-male club of friends speaking to what he was like while attending Hogwarts. There’s also the fact that it would be changing Rowling’s source material, which may not sit well with those who like the Harry Potter books.
