Warning: SPOILERS are coming for The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 6!The Walking Dead: Dead City star Jeffrey Dean Morgan has opened up about what the end of Season 1 means for Negan and the show’s future. In the season finale, Maggie traded Negan for Hershel, with the Croat taking Negan to Manhattan’s true ruler, the Dama. Wanting Negan’s help in conquering all of New York City, the Dama threaten to kill Hershel and destroy the Hilltop if he doesn’t comply.

Speak with Weekly entertainment ahead of the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike, Morgan shared his take on Negan’s current situation and what it means The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2. He says Negan wasn’t expecting the Dama and isn’t prepared, but being cornered will lead to entertaining results. Check out what Morgan had to say below:

I think he thinks he’s damned. He’s in a position he didn’t expect to be – sure… Yes, (the Dama) has Negan. She’s a bit of a chess player and I don’t think Negan was prepared for her. I think he was prepared for the character of Željko (the Croat) and at least knows who he is and what he’s going to bring, so he can anticipate that. But he had not foreseen what the Dama brings to the table. And so I think what Negan sees — and you can see the wheels spinning — I don’t think he sees a way out at this point.

Fun things are going to happen any time he can be cornered. And so we leave here with Negan in a corner and we’ll tell the story of him trying to get out. Because he’s in a bad position right now, and he knows it. That’s a rare position for him, except when he served 10 years in prison in Alexandria.

What Happens to Negan in Dead City Season 2?

With Negan forced to work with the Dama, The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 will focus on him conquering other parts of New York City for her. It’s unlikely that Negan will try to fight his way out of the situation because despite Maggie’s betrayal, he doesn’t want anything bad to happen to Hershel. Still, Morgan’s comment hints at Negan trying to find a creative way out of his predicament.

This can come in the form of Maggie. The Walking Dead: Dead City the end of Season 1 hints that Maggie will return to Manhattan to save Negan, wanting to put her anger at him behind her. Though it’s clear she still hasn’t forgiven Negan for killing Glenn The living Dead season 7 she no longer wants to be driven by revenge. Because of this, Maggie may be the key to stopping Negan from helping the Dama take over New York.

While The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 hasn’t gone into production yet, Negan being forced to help the Dama is a promising storyline for the future. But when Negan returns to his old ways to help the Dama, it’s unclear what that will mean for his relationship with Maggie going forward. Whatever happens, The Walking Dead: Dead CitySeason 1’s cliffhanger teases Negan’s biggest challenge in Season 2.
