Hellbound season 2 finally gets an update almost two years after the show’s Netflix premiere. Created by Yeon Sang-ho, and consisting of six episodes, Hellbound takes place in an alternate version of Earth. Over the course of the story, which is based on Yeon’s webtoon of the same name, viewers are introduced to a world where angels manifest before individuals to inform them of their sins and their impending demise. And, when that time comes, these unlucky souls are dragged to hell. It became a hit after its release, drawing impressive viewership.

There’s finally movement on Hellbound season 2, with a new video from Netflix K-Content confirming that the fantasy adaptation is hard at work on new episodes, highlighting Yeon in meetings and giving a glimpse into how the show is put together.

There’s no word yet on when new episodes will release. But the video, included above, is the first concrete update on the South Korean series since season 2 was confirmed in September 2022.

What To Expect From Hellbound Season 2

The biggest movement has surrounded the Hellbound cast. Kim Sung-cheol will replace Yoo Ah-in the main role of Jin-soo. And while there will be familiar faces, with Kim Hyun-joo, Kim Shin-rok, Yang Ik-june, Lee Dong-hee, and Lee Re returning to their respective roles in the second installment, there are expected to be several additions to the ensemble.

Hong Eui-joon, Lim Seong-jae, Jo Dong-in and Moon Geun-young have all joined the adaptation. The casting shows that while the series will pick up some threads from the previous installment, there are also plans to expand the scope of the narrative. That will be particularly interesting to watch unfold, after an eventful Hellbound season 1 finale, which included the first time an individual was prevented from being dragged to hell.

Hellbound season 2 will be released in the aftermath of Squid Game, putting a spotlight on the quality of high-concept Korean dramas. By Netflix’s metrics, it was watched for more than 67 million hours within mere days of its launch. It could get an even bigger audience for its second outing, especially as audiences have continued to discover it.
