Six original films from Disney+ and Hulu that were removed earlier this year are now available on VOD. Disney+ and Hulu have removed dozens of originals – both TV shows and movies – this year as a cost-cutting measure for the streaming services. This includes some noteworthy content like the Willow TV series, as well as the Bryan Cranston-led film The One and Only Ivan.

Now, LifeIsAFilmFest has confirmed that six original movies that were previously removed from Disney+ and Hulu are now available to rent on VOD.

The previously unavailable films include Rosaline, Better Nate Than Ever, The One and Only Ivan, Crater, Cheaper by the Dozen, and Flora & Ulysses. All of these films were originally unavailable to watch anywhere following their removal from streaming.

Why Disney+ & Hulu Removed Original Content

Many of the removed movies and TV series from Disney+ and Hulu appear to be ways for Disney as a company to save money. The content purge happened in May, with over 50 titles in total between both streaming services getting taken off the platforms. By June, it was reported that Disney earned a $1.5 billion write-off by removing content from streaming.

The removal of content from the streaming platforms also resulted in the loss of some newer movies, such as Crater getting removed from Disney+ seven weeks after release. However, some movies now being available to rent on VOD is a step in the right direction for preserving content removed from the streaming platforms. It also gives newcomers an opportunity to check out all six movies for the first time.

Despite these movies now being available, there are still dozens of removed Disney+ and Hulu titles yet to be released elsewhere. While it’s a good sign these movies are now available, it doesn’t guarantee a future home for everything removed from both streaming services. With plenty of TV shows and movies still unaccounted for, it remains to be seen when even more removed original titles will appear on VOD or other platforms in the future.
