3 times Indian captain had heated battle with umpires -TGN

The umpires are there for a reason. To judge without any bias and to ensure that the game runs smoothly, in a timely manner and that the rules are followed by all. Sometimes the players are not much different than school kids who complain to their teachers when it comes to fighting with the umpires.

Some Indian players have sometimes displayed the attitude of real bullies on the field, their arrogance and ruthless attitude bubbled up outside, their actions and mentality suggest that they are well secured and protected by the BCCIthe richest and most powerful cricket board in the world, plus their fans who would rain down on social media if action is taken against their favorite player they’ve put on a pedestal next to a demigod.

Here are three famous examples of Indian captains having heated fights with umpires:

MS Dhoni loses his temper against Billy Bowden on a rare occasion

During the 2012 CB Series in Australia, MS Dhoni lost his temper more than once. He did it 2-3 times in the press conferences, while on the field he had quite the fight with respected umpire Billy Bowden of all umpires.

In a match against Australia, India and MS Dhoni had called on a stumping from Mike Hussey. Replays clearly suggested – and it was also visible to the players on the field through the giant screen – that Hussey’s leg was in the crease.

Much to everyone’s shock, the giant screen flashed OFF. When Hussey started walking, Billy Bowden remembered the Aussie batter, citing that the third umpire had pressed the wrong button.

But MS Dhoni was having none of it and it even appealed to referee Billy Bowden. The pair had a long talk in the middle and eventually Hussey was told to continue the spanking.

Virat Kohli shows frustration and anger to referees

Virat Kohli is someone who wears his heart on his sleeve and never shy away from showing his emotions on the field, even if it is against the umpires.

During one of the T20I matches on the 2018/19 tour of Australia, when India were bowling, the rain came down heavily. There were many umbrellas in the crowd, but the referees did not take the players off the field. As the rain poured down from the sky and the outfield got wet, the Indian bowlers struggled to hold on to the ball.

This really enraged Virat Kohli and the then India captain tried out the two umpires and argued with them in the middle of the ground.

Harmanpreet Kaur hits the tree stumps with her bat and lashes out at the Bangladesh umpire

Indian women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur recently had a wild outburst against the Bangladeshi umpires. After being unhappy at being given lbw by the on-field umpire – who was from the host country – Harmanpreet Kaur hit the stumps with her bat. As she started walking towards the locker room, Harmanpreet lunged at the referee and hurled some strong words at the referee.

Later, when both captains were called to the podium to share the trophy – the series ended 1-1 – Harmanpreet Kaur told the Bangladeshi skipper to also bring the umpires as they were playing from the Bangladesh side.
