Greta Gerwig discusses the possibility of directing James Bond, which could break an important 61-year tradition for the 007 film series. One of the highest grossing franchises of all time, James Bond features over 20 episodes, led by actors Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig and more. Gerwig, already an experienced filmmaker with Lady Bird, Little womenand most recently Barbiewould become the first woman to a James Bond movie, if she decided to tackle that series in the future.

Appeared on the Within total movie podcast (via deadline), Gerwig discussed what she’s currently focused on and suggested she might be interested James Bond at a given moment. When the franchise and the idea that there might be a possibility came up, the director shared that she hadn’t thought about it, but added that she likes Barbara Broccoli. Read about Gerwig’s comments James Bond below:

Oh my God. No, we’ll stick to a few lions (and) a few dolls for now. But you never know. I really like Barbara Broccoli (007 Producer), so…

What’s next for Greta Gerwig?

Earlier in July, it was confirmed that Gerwig would be writing and directing the upcoming adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia. Based on the novels by CS Lewis, the films follow the adventures of four siblings who discover the world of Narnia and will be distributed by Netflix. Gerwig is reportedly involved in the first two entries and will likely be working on the next Barbie, as she suggested during the podcast. In addition to the young children, there are other notable characters The Chronicles of Narnia include the White Witch and Aslan, a lion.

a James Bond film directed by Gerwig should not be ruled out, especially given the critical and commercial success of Barbiethe opening weekend. As a filmmaker, Gerwig has proven his ability to work with different styles and budgets and create potential blockbusters. The Chronicles of Narnia will explore another genre as well, and when those films are completed, it will be interesting to see what direction she takes next.

Over the years, Gerwig’s films have gained much recognition and audiences are quickly won over to her work. Should she decide to tackle James Bond, Gerwig would probably add something new to the franchise. Breaking that 62-year tradition would also be important, as no female director has helmed the 007 story, and it’s worth wondering what else she might do in the future.
