Lionsgate’s Cobweb Drop Eerie New Song From Drum & Lace (EXCLUSIVE) -TGN

First reviews of Lionsgate’s new horror movie Spider web are good and describe a solid domestic horror flick full of enough ambiguity to keep viewers guessing. The cast of the film includes Anthony Starr (The boys) and Lizzy Caplan (Fleishman is in trouble), but is led by Woody Norman, who plays 8-year-old Peter, a kid determined to investigate mysterious sounds emanating from within the walls of his house. Spider web was directed by Samuel Bodwin, who said in an interview with Screen Rant that he was drawn to the project by the unique tone of writer Chris Thomas Devlin’s script.

The creepiness of Spider web gets a boost thanks to a music score by Drum & Lace, Sofia degli Alessandri-Hultquist’s film composer and artist project. Screen Rant is pleased to premiere a selection of Drum & Lace’s work at Spider web prior to the release of the full soundtrack. Watch “Leave the Dark” below:

“Leave the Dark” is a beautifully disturbing piece of music that alludes to the greater tone and scope of Drum & Lace’s music for Spider web. For Spider web, Drum & Lace used a 40-piece string ensemble, synthesizers and a wide variety of other instruments. Drum & Lace is also known for sampling and experimenting with sounds, which is what the sonic possibilities are for Spider web even further. Here’s what Drum & Lace had to say about shifting the opening note of the score, which is sort of a play on music heard in iconic Amblin studio films:

Before I started composing, I had cellist Ro Rowan to include some cello effects and what not to pepper through the cues, and also composer and multi-instrumentalist Jon Natchez to include some heavy and big saxophone swells, which you can also hear throughout the score. These were greatly manipulated and lent themselves well to the second half of the scoring.

“Leave the Dark” is just one of 36 pieces of music Cobweb: Original Film Score. Spider web isn’t the first horror project scored by Drum & Lace, but the soundtrack is an exciting new offering from the composer who has previously scored projects like Hulu’s Rosaline. The track names Cobweb: Original Movie Soundtrack are thrilling in their own right, with titles like “Clawed,” “Help Me,” and “I Heard Something” promising anything but memorable thrills and spills.

Spider web will hit theaters on July 21. Cobweb: Original Film Score will be available on digital platforms the same day, courtesy of Lionsgate Records, and can be streamed here.
