Lindsay Lohan announces the birth of her baby with a perfect reference to Mean Girls. The actress starred in the 2004 teen comedy sleeper hit as Cady Heron who, after being homeschooled her whole life in Africa, transfers to a public high school and befriends the A-list clique known as the Plastics, who are played by Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried. More recently, Lohan returned to the spotlight with the romantic comedy Falling for Christmas as part of her multi-picture deal with Netflix.

On Instagram, Lindsay Lohan recently announced the birth of her baby with a proud postpartum selfie and perfect Mean Girls reference. Check out her post below:

In her post, Lohan marveled at what her body was able to accomplish during pregnancy and now, recovery, saying “Having a baby is the greatest joy in the world!” She ended her post by pointing at her outfit of the day includes Frida Mom postpartum underwear “because I’m not a regular mom, I’m a postpartum mom,” a reference to Mean Girls when Regina’s mom (played by Amy Poehler) tells Cady, “I’m not like a regular mom. I’m a cool mom.”

Why Mean Girls Remains So Popular

Lohan’s perfect Mean Girls reference was a pleasant surprise for the many who still cherish the cult classic comedy, which was actually a big box office hit at the time of its release, grossing $130 million on a $17 million budget. However, Mean Girls remains present in the public consciousness because of its timeless themes. Tina Fey’s screenplay, which was based both on Rosalind Wiseman’s book Queen Bees and Wannabes and her own experiences, offers a satirical look at high school cliques, social hierarchies, and teenage bullying with razor-sharp wit and memorable catchphrases that are still quoted to this day.

Mean Girls has also remained popular due to subsequent spinoffs. The lesser-known made-for-TV sequel Mean Girls 2 premiered on ABC Family in 2011 and the smash hit Mean Girls musical, also written by Fey, premiered on Broadway in 2018. A movie adaptation of that musical is in the making for Paramount+, the state of which is unclear due to the dual writers and actors strikes, though it’s set to star Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Jaquel Spivey, Jenna Fischer, and Jon Hamm. Whether Lohan or other members of the core Mean Girls cast return for cameos remains to be seen.
