Mirage’s Post-Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Future (Almost) Confirmed After Initial Doubts -TGN

Resume

  • Transformers: Rise of the Beasts introduced the Maximals and teased a potential Transformers/GI Joe crossover, paving the way for exciting future installments.

  • Voiced by Pete Davidson, Mirage became a standout character in the film, filling the role Bumblebee typically played in previous films.

  • Davidson initially had doubts about how he would fit into the Transformers franchise, but ultimately turned in a standout performance that all but sealed the deal upon his future return.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is an exciting step in the Transformers franchise brimming with potential for future installments. The movie not only introduced the Maximals originally seen in Beast Wars: Transformersbut it also ended with the promise of one Transformers/GI Joe crosswalk. While such an event has been discussed and desired in the past, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts laid the foundation for a good crossover film that had to be realized.

The film also introduced new Autobot characters, one of the most notable being Mirage, voiced by Pete Davidson. Mirage is the close companion of Anthony Ramos’ Noah Diaz and fills the role Bumblebee often takes on in other Transformers movies. Despite the character’s obvious importance to the franchise, Mirage’s future post-Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was surprisingly in the air until recently. Now things seem to have changed, as revealed by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura during a recent interview with Screen Rant:

Lorenzo di Bonaventura: We like to watch the film with the audience and then hear their reaction. A good example of this is (that) if we had tried to plan ahead, we wouldn’t necessarily have planned for Mirage as a character in the next movie. After seeing the movie you should be clear: Mirage is almost final, right? That’s the kind of thing you can’t guess in advance.

No one knew how Pete Davidson would fit Transformers… Including Pete Davidson

Whether di Bonaventura doubted Mirage’s future because of the character or the casting is unclear, but the casting of Pete Davidson initially seemed like an interesting choice. Apparently Davidson and di Bonaventura were thinking the same thing. Di Bonaventura said this:

Lorenzo di Bonaventura: I don’t think Pete had ever done anything like this before, so I think he had a natural hesitation about, like, “How would I do this?” and, “What exactly is this?” I think he was the one that we all weren’t sure how it would fit in, and I think he probably felt the same way, so there was a bit of a dance at first. Fortunately, the dance went well and he joined the film, because he did well.”

In the end, Davidson got it right, bringing his signature energy and charm to the role to serve as a perfect foil for the Autobots and companion for Noah. While Di Bonaventura did say that Mirage is “almost” final in the next one Transformers film, it would be a shame to lose Davidson from the franchise so soon after introducing his character. Anyway, the actor’s performance is in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was a culmination of a film that has already renewed interest in the Transformers series as a whole.
