Netflix Delays 6 Original Movies To 2024 Including Millie Bobby Brown Fantasy Epic & Nicole Kidman Comedy -TGN

Summary

  • Many upcoming movie titles, including Millie Bobby Brown’s Damsel, have been delayed to 2024.

  • The other Netflix titles being delayed are A Family Affair, Shirley, Spaceman, Lift, and Players.

  • The delays of the six Netflix titles have not been confirmed to be a direct result of the ongoing strikes.

Netflix has delayed six of their upcoming movie titles to 2024. Quite a few movie and TV projects have been delayed by different studios in the past months during the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strikes. As actors and writers fight for fair pay, many upcoming productions have been stalled. Also, stars cannot promote struck productions, reducing the ability of currently airing projects to reach audiences.

Per Digital Spy, six Netflix titles have been delayed to 2024, including Millie Bobby Brown’s Damsel, which was originally set for an October 13 release. The other titles that have been delayed are A Family Affair with Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman, Lift with Kevin Hart, Players with Damon Wayans Jr. and Gina Rodriguez, Shirley with Regina King, and Spaceman with Adam Sandler. There is no word as to whether these delays are a reaction to the ongoing dual strikes.

What’s Left On Netflix In 2023?

Whether or not these titles are being delayed because of the strikes, this kind of mass shift is surprising from Netflix. Typically, the streaming service has months’ worth of content prepared ahead of time, so even with an interruption like the strikes, they have a buffer zone. This fact was borne out in 2020, when Netflix continued to release new titles despite worldwide production shutdowns during the early COVID-19 pandemic, including Bridgerton season 1 and The Prom, both of which premiered in December of that year.

This major decision is particularly surprising given that precedent. However, this doesn’t mean that Netflix will be barren through the end of 2023. At the time of writing, many movies and television series are still on the docket, including the spy thriller Heart of Stone starring Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, and Alia Bhatt, which is slated to premiere on August 11.

Other titles that remain on the slate for 2023 include Mike Flanagan’s The Fall of the House of Usher, the reboot Spy Kids: Armageddon, and Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon has also not budged from its intended December 22 release date. For the time being, Netflix still has many of its 2023 titles in place, though that could potentially change if the strikes continue for even longer.
