Nevada woman sentenced to 5 years for attempting to hire Hitman using Bitcoin -TGN

a Nevada woman is sentenced to five years in prison for hiring a hitman using Bitcoin (BTC) to kill her ex-husband.

Kristy Lynn Felkinsthe 38-year-old resident of To fall upon, Nevadapleaded guilty in March to a murder-for-hire charge as part of a deal with federal prosecutors, according to a US Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.

According to the court documents, Felkins entered into the plea deal to avoid going to trial.

Following the sentencing, a judge at the U.S. District Court in California ruled that once Felkins completes her prison sentence, she would be released on supervised release for three years.

In 2016, Felkins transferred 12 Bitcoin, then worth $5,000, to the operator of a website on the Tor network called Besa mafia, which claimed to be offering assassinations for hire. Today, the Bitcoin she sent would be worth nearly $360,000.

Court documents revealed that in 2016, Felkins held talks with the operator of the Besa Mafia website for four months in 2016.

She provided detailed information about her ex-husband’s whereabouts, including his home address, vehicle and work schedule.

She wanted him eliminated while in Chico, California, according to an indictment filed in 2020.

Authorities later revealed that the Besa Mafia website was simply a scam designed to scam unsuspecting customers.

In a statement acknowledging her guilt, Felkins admitted that in March 2016 she offered an additional $4,000 to help speed up the timeline of the murder plot.

She also stated that she “didn’t care” if her ex-husband’s new girlfriend was harmed as a result of the murder.

Felkins reportedly requested that the alleged assassin make the murder look like an accident.

According to her statement, she asked the alleged hit man if it was possible to stage the murder to resemble a robbery gone wrong.

Felkins had told the Besa Mafia administrator that she would benefit financially from her ex-husband’s death.

“I’m ready to get his pension, our house and possibly a big life insurance payout,” she said.

Felkins, who is out of custody, was ordered to surrender in September to serve her prison sentence.

This incident resembles a similar sting operation that led to the arrest and imprisonment of a Mississippi woman last year.

In that case, the woman paid $10,000 in Bitcoin to what she believed to be a hit man, but turned out to be an undercover federal law enforcement agent.

At the time, the woman was sentenced to the legal maximum of 120 months in prison for “using interstate commerce facilities in the commission of a murder-for-hire,” according to a DOJ. submit.
