Percy Jackson Show Trailer Teased By Rick Riordan, Author Praises “Fantastic” Action & Special Effects-TGN

Summary

  • Rick Riordan confirms there’s no news on a Percy Jackson and the Olympians trailer coming any time soon.

  • The author did, however, praise the “fantastic” action and special effects he’s seen in the footage thus far from the show.

  • Riordan further called for studios to step up their negotiations to make a better deal for the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.

After over a year of keeping fans of the novels updated on its progress, Rick Riordan is sharing insight on the first Percy Jackson and the Olympians show trailer. The Disney+ show marks the second major adaptation of Riordan’s fantasy adventure novels centered on the eponymous teenager who learns he is a demigod and is accused of stealing Zeus’ lightning bolt. Walker Scobell is leading the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians alongside Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri.

Fresh off of showing new posters at San Diego Comic-Con, Rick Riordan has taken to his Threads account with a new Percy Jackson and the Olympians show update. The author confessed that there is currently “no news” on a trailer for the Disney+ adaptation, though praised the footage he’s seen so far, hyping its “fantastic” action and special effects. Check out what Riordan shared below:

No news on a trailer. That’s probably still quite a ways off. In the meantime, sure would help if the studios would come back to the negotiating table and resolve these strikes! Reviewing some of the special effects for the PJO show, because thankfully that aspect of our post-production work is not affected by the ongoing strikes. Only a few finished clips so far, but they look fantastic. Our three main actors in action … with all the finishing touches … perfect. Becky and I are very happy.

When The Percy Jackson Show Trailer May Release

With filming on the Percy Jackson and the Olympians show having only just wrapped in February, it may not come as much of a surprise that the trailer is not yet ready, especially considering the extensive special effects Riordan alludes to above. Additionally, with the actors and writers currently on strike, most studios are hesitant to promote projects with as big of a gap as the Disney+ title as those on strike won’t conduct interviews to offer breakdowns of such marketing.

Another major factor now holding the Percy Jackson and the Olympians show trailer releasing is the lack of any major events such as San Diego Comic-Con for the rest of the year in which Disney can build up anticipation to premiere it. The sole event would have been that of D23, typically held in September and bringing with it major Marvel, Star Wars and other Disney reveals, though with no major headway seemingly being made in the negotiations between the AMPTP and both SAG-AFTRA and the WGA, it doesn’t seem likely Disney would be keen to set any major announcements at the risk of furthering angering Riordan or other creatives.

With the post-production process focusing on visual effects and editing, the ongoing actors and writers strikes at least seem unlikely to affect the Percy Jackson and the Olympians show’s release date. While no specific one has been set, a release window of early 2024 was confirmed by Riordan in 2022, leaving plenty of time for the show to be complete and glimpses of the “fantastic” action the author is teasing in his most recent update.
