Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl star Zoe Saldaña reflects on getting an apology from the film’s producer following a less than pleasant experience making the movie. Released in 2003, the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which is directed by Gore Verbinski, kickstarted a successful franchise that now consists of five movies in total. Saldaña plays pirate Anamaria in the first movie but does not return for any subsequent installments.

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1, Saldaña remembers Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer actually reaching out to her several years after the movie came out to apologize.

Sandaña has previously been quite open about her time on the film not being the greatest experience as an actor, and it turns out that Bruckheimer would later see these comments and personally reach out. Check out the actor’s full comment below:

“I really had a not so good experience because of the poor management at that time. And Jerry Bruckheimer knows this. We spoke about it. Eventually, I think he read somewhere where I had expressed my discomfort and my disappointment, and years later he apologized. Which felt really quite honorable, I have to say.”

Zoe Saldaña’s Bad Pirates Of The Caribbean Experience Explained

Saldaña ultimately plays a relatively small role in the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, playing a pirate who is angry with Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) for stealing her ship. The actor would later open up about her brief time in the franchise, revealing that her issues stemmed mostly from the grand size of the production and that it didn’t feel totally cohesive or organized.

The actor recently offered a thoughtful recollection of her difficult Pirates of the Caribbean experience, revealing that she felt “lost and very small in that big machine.” She describes the production as “out of control,” expressing that she would never want to repeat that same filming experience again.

Despite this, however, Saldaña did express that she’s proud of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and of all the talented cast and crew that brought it to life. Of course, she would ultimately go on to work on productions that were just as grand in scale, including the likes of Star Trek and Avatar, but these franchise were evidently better organized and better managed, resulting in an overall more positive experience.
