Summary

  • Netflix UK users will be losing access to the Oscar-winning film The Power of the Dog, directed by Jane Campion and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, on August 18.

  • The removal of the film follows a trend among streaming platforms, but it is uncertain if it will be available on other services like BBC iPlayer.

  • Despite its removal in the UK, The Power of the Dog will still remain on Netflix US for the time being.

A new report reveals that The Power of the Dog, an Oscar-winning Netflix original movie, is being removed from the platform this month in one region. Directed by Jane Campion, The Power of the Dog hit the streamer in 2021. The film, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch, was a big hit with critics and earned a host of Oscar nominations, with Campion ultimately winning for Best Director.

Now, according to Digital Spy, The Power of the Dog will be removed from Netflix UK on August 18. The movie is not currently scheduled for removal from Netflix US, but the move does continue a growing tend among streamers. It’s currently unclear whether the film will be available on any other streaming services following its removal, but it’s possible it will take after His House, another removed Netflix original, and land on BBC iPlayer.
