A Quiet Place 3 With Cillian Murphy & Emily Blunt Is Possible Under 2 Conditions-TGN

Summary

  • Emily Blunt revealed during a podcast interview that she’s open to starring in a potential sequel to A Quiet Place Part II with Cillian Murphy.

  • Blunt expressed her condition for returning in the sequel: she wants her husband and co-star John Krasinski to direct it as well.

  • Blunt, Murphy, and Krasinski had a conversation about the potential sequel, discussing the idea of keeping the story going together.

Emily Blunt has laid out her main conditions for starring in A Quiet Place 3. The star played Evelyn Abbott in the 2018 horror movie A Quiet Place, which was directed by her husband and co-star John Krasinski and follows a family struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by monsters who hunt via sound. She reprised the role in the 2021 sequel A Quiet Place Part II, which was also directed by Krasinski and stars Cillian Murphy as Emmett, a former friend of Evelyn’s husband Lee.

Blunt appeared on a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast to discuss everything from her role in the Oppenheimer cast to potential sequels to some of her movies. During the interview, which was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, she revealed that she, Krasinski, and her Oppenheimer co-star Cillian Murphy recently chatted about a potential third A Quiet Place movie. While she is interested, it would have to involve all three of them, especially Krasinski, as she doesn’t “want it to be with a different director.” Read her full quote below:

Well, Cillian (Murphy) and I were having a chat with John (Krasinski) about it last night. We were sitting on a rooftop all together drinking wine and… “You know what would be great? Is if we keep this thing going…” I think there’s… it would have to be that we would all do it together. I don’t want it to be with a different director if we did it again.

Editor’s Note: This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and the movie covered here would not exist without the labor of the writers and actors in both unions.

Could A Quiet Place 3 Happen?

Blunt’s conditions for making A Quiet Place 3 seem reasonably easy to meet. Both A Quiet Place movies were directed by Krasinski and were theatrical successes, with the first earning $340.9 million worldwide and the second making $297.3 million despite coming out during a pandemic-depressed box office era in mid-2021. Because of this, it makes sense that the studio would allow him to helm the next entry should he wish to.

The biggest issue preventing the movie from coming together would most likely be the schedules of the trio. Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy will likely be busy over the coming months, presuming the SAG-AFTRA strike comes to an end during that period, especially if he gets nominated for an Oscar for his role in Christopher Nolan’s smash biopic. Blunt and Krasinski are also hot commodities in Hollywood and are already collaborating on Krasinski’s upcoming directorial feature IF, previously titled Imaginary Friends, which is due in 2024.

As all three stars continue building their careers toward greater and greater heights, this could delay A Quiet Place 3 considerably. However, the franchise is already set to continue thanks to the prequel A Quiet Place: Day One, which is currently set to release on March 8, 2024. This could potentially buy time for the trio to wrangle their schedules and make the third movie happen in a timely manner following that entry.
