Riverdale Season 7 Episode 17 Trailer Reveals How Josie Returns-TGN

Summary

  • Josie McCoy returns to Riverdale in an upcoming episode for a final appearance before the show ends, showcasing her transition from a musician to a Hollywood movie star.

  • Josie’s departure from Riverdale in season 3 was due to Ashleigh Murray taking on a role in the spin-off series Katy Keene, where her character continued her music career in New York.

  • Despite Katy Keene’s cancellation, Josie achieved success as a singer and returned to Riverdale due to her father’s passing, reuniting temporarily with Josie and the Pussycats and continuing her world tour. Now, her story takes an interesting turn in the 1950s timeline.

The trailer for Riverdale season 7, episode 17, “Chapter One Hundred Thirty-Four: A Different Kind of Cat,” reveals the return of Ashleigh Murray’s Josie McCoy. Riverdale is currently in its last season on The CW and has been following the gang after they were transported back to the 1950s. The last time viewers saw Josie was in a guest appearance in Riverdale season 5 before the time warp occurred.

The trailer (via TV Promos) for Riverdale season 7, episode 17 reveals how Josie returns to the town of Riverdale for one last hurrah before the show’s end.

It seems she will be making quite an entrance for her long-awaited return. Before the time warp happened, Josie was on a path to becoming a musician. However, the Riverdale trailer reveals she has added acting to her resume in this timeline. She is now a Hollywood movie star who returns to Riverdale for a screening of her new film.

What Happened To Josie McCoy On Riverdale?

When Riverdale first premiered in 2017, Josie was one of the main characters. An ambitious and talented young singer, she spent three seasons on the show. She formed the band Josie and the Pussycats along with Valerie Brown (Hayley Law) and Melody Valentine (Asha Bromfield). The band disbanded in Riverdale season 2, though, when Valerie and Melody discovered Josie was pursuing a solo career.

By the end of season 3, Josie departed Riverdale completely to join her father on tour and further pursue her music career. The real reason why Josie was written off Riverdale is because Murray landed a role on another CW series, Katy Keene. It was a spin-off of Riverdale, following four characters from Archie Comics on their respective journeys to attain stardom through their art. Murray reprised her role as Josie for the series, and it follows her five years after the events of Riverdale as an adult chasing her music dreams in New York.

Unfortunately, Katy Keene was cancelled after one season. Josie’s return in Riverdale season 5 confirmed she made it big as a singer and toured the world. Sadly, it was her father’s passing that brought her back to Riverdale. However, it also allowed her to temporarily revive Josie and the Pussycats and resume her world tour with her father’s ashes to spread. Josie’s former Riverdale story ultimately wrapped up nicely, but it will be interesting to see where her 1950s storyline takes her.
