New images from Sex Education season 4 offer a closer glimpse into what’s to come in the show’s final season. The British comedy series, which premiered on Netflix in 2019, stars Asa Butterfield as teenager Otis Milburn, the son of sex therapist Jean (Gillian Anderson). Taking after her, he opens a sex clinic at Moordale Secondary School, where he helps various classmates with topical issues revolving around sex and romance.

Netflix has now unveiled a gallery of brand-new first-look images from Sex Education season 4. The images offer an early glimpse into new storylines featuring many returning characters, including Otis, Jean, Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), Maeve (Emma Mackey), Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood), Adam (Connor Swindells), Michael (Alistair Petrie), Cal (Dua Saleh), Isaac (George Robinson), Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling), Vivienne (Chinenye Ezeudu), and Ruby (Mimi Keene). How Sex Education is Setting Up Its Final Season

One of the most important developments in the series came in the Sex Education season 3 finale. During that episode, Moordale closed for good, leaving its students scattered and adrift. While many will be picking up their new term at Cavendish Sixth Form College, Maeve will have left them behind to study at the U.S. college Wallace University.

This dramatic departure from the show’s usual setting is reflected in many of the images. In addition to showcasing new environments for these familiar characters, there are hints as to how each character is adjusting, including a pensive look on Maeve’s face and the fact that Ruby has already acquired a water bottle with the Cavendish logo. Some of the images also have a more melancholy or reflective tone, showing how the teenagers are reckoning with the conclusion of their coming of age.

It seems that Sex Education is gearing up to bring closure to its vast ensemble of characters as they move forward into these new chapters of their lives. This mimics the behind-the-scenes reality of the show as well. Following the departure of stars Patricia Allison and Tanya Reynolds, both Ncuti Gatwa (who will be playing The Doctor in Doctor Who season 14) and Emma Mackey announced that season 4 would be their last hurrah before the season was officially revealed to be the conclusion of the series.
