Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is going where the franchise has never gone before: into the realm of musical theater. The episode, titled “Subspace Rhapsody” is the first time any Star Trek show has gone musical, and sees the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds showcasing the range of their talents by performing the show’s musical numbers themselves. In addition to being something of a groundbreaking step for Star Trek as a whole, the musical episode continues to prove the value of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ genre-bending approach.
In addition to featuring original music by Kay Hanley (Letters to Cleo) and Tom Polce (Letters to Cleo, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), this special episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds boasts a new main theme interpretation by composer Jeff Russo. Russo is also known for his work on Fargo, For All Mankind, and Star Trek: Picard and won an Emmy Award in 2017 for his work on Fargo season 3, episode 9 “Aporia”.
