Star Trek TNG’s Crusher Family actors reunite at SAG-AFTRA Strike -TGN

Resume

  • Gates McFadden and Wil Wheaton, who played mother and son on Star Trek, have reunited amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

  • They shared a photo on Twitter and Facebook, standing on the picket lines to support fair pay and raise concerns about artificial intelligence in the entertainment industry.

  • Star Trek actors fight for the rights of fellow actors and writers, continuing the show’s legacy of celebrating what’s right and fighting for the future of the industry.

Gates McFadden and Wil Wheaton, who played mother and son Star Trek: The Next Generation, recently reunited amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. On Star Trek: The Next Generation, Gates McFadden played Dr. Beverly Crusher, the ship’s Chief Medical Officer and occasional love interest of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). Wil Wheaton played Wesley Crusher, the son of Dr. Crusher who was a bit of a prodigy in math and science. Both actors reprized their roles in several seasons of Star Trek: Picard and they remain active in the Star Trek fandom.

Just as their characters often did Star Trek: The Next Generation, Gates McFadden and Wil Wheaton continue to stand up for their beliefs. On Twitter, McFadden shared a photo of himself and Wheaton standing on the picket lines of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. See @gates_mcfadden’s Tweet below:

McFadden and Wheaton, who affectionately refer to each other as “space mother” And “space son,” stand outside the Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles where they filmed Star Trek: The Next Generation together more than 30 years ago. Wheaton posted the same photo on his Facebook page, sharing some of his thoughts on the strike and his experience working TNG.

Star Trek actors and writers are part of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes

On July 14, SAG-AFTRA officially declared their strike and the actors joined the writers on the picket lines. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has been on strike since May, marking the first time since the 1960s that both unions have gone on strike at the same time. While their demands are slightly delayed, actors and writers both demand fair pay and express concern over the rise of artificial intelligence in the entertainment industry.

Many actors and writers in the entertainment industry today are not making enough money to cover the rising cost of living, and several Star Trek actors have stood up to fight for the rights of their fellow actors and writers. In his Facebook post, Wil Wheaton ended his post with the following:

We have to fight for the future of our industry in the face of changing technology, the same way our elders did in 1960. So today my Spacemom and I went to where it all began for us, long ago, to do just that. I see all your support. It means so much. Thank you.

Star Trek has always been about celebrating all that humanity can be, so it seems fitting that many march actors would stand up for what is right.
