Apple TV+’s Swagger Sees Quvenzhané Wallis & Isaiah Hill Bond On The Court Before Season 2 Finale-TGN

Exclusive: Screen Rant presents a key clip from Swagger season 2 ahead of the finale, in which Crystal helps Jace train and touches on the future.

Summary

  • Swagger season 2 surpasses its strong first season, going deeper into the lives of its characters and exploring larger social themes.

  • The clip from episode 7 showcases the emotional and physical challenges that the sport of basketball presents to its characters.

  • Seeds are being planted for Jace’s future both romantically and as a career-driven basketball player, hinting at potential storylines for season 3.

The Apple TV+ sports drama Swagger is deep into its second season which, by many accounts, has surpassed the show’s strong first outing in several ways. Loosely based on the life of NBA superstar Kevin Durant, Swagger was dubbed “one of the best new series of the year” by The Hollywood Reporter when its first season debuted in 2021. In season 2, the show dives deeper into the lives of its characters and its exploration of larger social themes and struggles alike. The show is a cross between Friday Night Lights and Love & Basketball — which is fitting as creator Reggie Rock Bythewood is married to the latter’s director, Gina Bythewood-Prince.

Swagger season 2 raises the stakes from the exciting first season, with Jace now in his senior year of high school. Normal high school pressures and relationships combine—and sometimes collide—with Jace’s dream of making it to the NBA. Screen Rant is excited to provide viewers with a clip from the most recent episode of Swagger season 2, just before the finale, that touches on the intersection of the young player’s personal and professional lives. Check it out below:

More About Swagger Season 2

Although Swagger season 1 had ten episodes, the show’s second season will wrap up in eight. Thankfully, the writers have managed to pack in just as much drama and excitement as they did the first time around despite the shorter run. The finale is titled “Journey and Destination” and centers around Swagger Prep’s most important game of the season. But the clip from episode 7, called “Homecoming,” showcases how the beloved sport tests its characters emotionally as well as physically. In many ways, what unfolds between Jace and Crystal will be just as consequential for the young star (and his childhood friend-turned-more) as the result of any one game.

The clip also points to the future in exciting ways. Swagger season 3 hasn’t yet been confirmed, but it’s encouraging that seeds are being planted both for Jace’s future with Crystal and as a career-driven basketball player. Whether or not Jace’s romantic relationship with Crystal survives the season remains to be seen, but the chemistry between Isaiah Hill and Quvenzhané Wallis makes a strong argument that it should.

The Swagger season 2 finale will be released Friday, August 11th on Apple TV+.
