Will The Mandalorian’s Marshal Return? Timothy Olyphant Dodges The Question With Style-TGN

Summary

  • Timothy Olyphant remains interested in returning as Cobb Vanth in The Mandalorian, praising Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni for developing a memorable character.

  • Cobb Vanth has become a popular collectible in toy lines, indicating the character’s popularity and potential for future appearances.

  • The return of Cobb Vanth in the Mandalorian universe is likely, with possibilities including a cameo alongside Boba Fett or being drawn off-world to combat Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Timothy Olyphant has dodged questions of a Cobb Vanth return in The Mandalorian, though he made it clear he remains interested. Originally created for interludes in the Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath trilogy, Vanth became the first character in canon to be transported from page to screen. Gunned down by Cad Bane in a duel in The Book of Boba Fett, Olyphant’s Vanth was last seen in a post-credit stinger, healing in Fett’s bacta pod.

In an interview with The Playlist, Olyphant avoided directly confirming questions of Cobb Vanth’s return, instead speaking highly of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni and asserting his desire to reprise the role.

“Honestly, I can tell you that I’ve been very, very lucky with those guys. I’ve only done two episodes and to have only done those two episodes and feel like you’re part of a world and they created such a memorable character. I mean, you know, I’m getting away with something here. I did two episodes and I’ve got like four toys out there. It’s ridiculous, and I know it because all of a sudden there’s people at the airport with toys. That’s new. But, it was a ball working on those things and those guys know if they call me I’d show up. I don’t care if it’s a big giant thing or just to show up for an afternoon. It’s a fun gig.”

The overall consensus has been that Favreau and Filoni create a great working environment, again highlighted by Olyphant’s willingness to return. In classic Star Wars fashion, Cobb Vanth is already a collectible in a number of toy lines, though he’s a bit more prominent than other characters to be immortalized in plastic. A return for Vanth seems inevitable, with the correct story being the only qualifier.

When Will Cobb Vanth Return?

With the Mandoverse in something of a development flux at the moment, options for Vanth’s return are limited. There are no signs indicating The Book of Boba Fett season 2 will be happening, eliminating the easiest solution for the Mos Pelgo marshal. With Din Djarin and Grogu set to work as Imperial hunting contractors for the New Republic in The Mandalorian season 4, a venture to Tatooine is likely.

Boba Fett will return to the narrative at some point, and with Cobb Vanth in the crime lord’s good graces, the marshal should be appearing alongside him. It could be a simple cameo that takes an afternoon to shoot, as Olyphant suggests, or the action may eventually draw Vanth off world when Djarin needs allies to combat Grand Admiral Thrawn. At the rate Hollywood is going, it will be well over a year until The Mandalorian is back on TVs, but Olyphant as Cobb Vanth should be part of the adventure.
