Tom Holland’s NSFW gay sex scene in The Crowded Room sparked a lot of social media reaction. (Apple TV+)
Tom Holland has faced a wave of homophobic backlash following his NSFW gay sex scene in the latest episode of The crowded room.
Tom Holland has been at the center of the internet discourse for years. Whether he steals the hearts of the audience with his adorable relationship with Euphoria icon Zendaya or his incredible camp performance of “Umbrella” on Lip-Sync Battlefascination for the 27-year-old Spider-Man star shows no signs of slowing down.
Now, just weeks after Zendaya went viral for her steamy scenes in a new movie challengersher long-term partner Holland did the same after starring in an explicit queer sex scene in Apple TV+’s new psychological thriller The crowded room.
Based on the true story of Billy Milligan, the first person acquitted of a dissociative identity disorder (DID) crime, the 10-episode series follows suspected violent criminal Danny Sullivan (Netherlands) whose complicated past is revealed by interrogator Rya Goodwin (Amanda Seyfried).
In the eighth episode of the show, titled “Reunion”, Danny goes to a nightclub and dances with a stranger, before going to the bathroom for a date.
Unfortunately, the scene immediately sparked a backlash from social media trolls, with many claiming it to be “absolutely horrifying”. for Holland to portray gay sex since he plays a superhero in Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, and is therefore a role model for young children.
Fortunately, many Dutch fans immediately jumped into his defense.
“It only took one Tom Holland gay scene for Twitter to explode into homophobic tirades, fragile masculinity and toxic behavior. People need to find some peace, that hatred is pathetic and literally kills young men,” one person wrote.
“Watching fragile cishet men break down over why Tom Holland is trending is sweet wine to me,” another tweeted. “Oh honey, you realize he’s an ACTOR, right? He’s REALLY not Spider-Man. He can play any role he wants, yes, queer roles too. Now take a deep breath and touch some grass.
“The reaction of straight men on the internet to that Tom Holland clip proves that you view gay sex as mean and demeaning or a joke, because there is no way you should act so traumatized during a sex scene,” a third added.
Straight men on the internet's reaction to that Tom Holland clip just proves Y'all see gay sex as nasty and degrading or a joke cus there is no way y'all should be acting like traumatized like this over a sex scene. (Cont)

Many others pointed out that the Netherlands is not alone Spider-Man actor to play a gay role. Tobey Maguire played the lead role Wonder boys (2000) opposite Robert Downey Jr, where the two play lovers, while Andrew Garfield played gay man Prior Walter in the production Angels in America.

No way people are saying “not my Spider-Man” about Tom Holland because of The Crowded Room. Then who is your Spider-Man because they’ve all played LGBT roles at some point 😭

Andrew Garfield has been a huge ally to the lgbt+ community for years, won a Tony for playing a gay man, and has kissed multiple men on TV. Plus more things…and today he is being used by homophobes against Tom Holland for one scene…please make it stop.

Tom isn’t my favorite Spider-Man and y’all know this. But to even joke that he’s “not my Spider-Man” anymore because he played a role that he simulated and ACTED out same sex intimacy is so SO stupid. And I really wish how y’all understood how ridiculous you sound.

Watching fragile cishet men have breakdowns over the reason Tom Holland is trending is sweet wine to me. Oh honey, you realize that he's an ACTOR, right? He's not ACTUALLY Spiderman. He can take any roles he wants, yes, including queer ones. Now breathe deeply & touch some grass.

Elsewhere, some viewers joked about that the scene is the perfect revenge to Zendaya for her portrayal of a sexy love affair with tennis players Art (Mike Faist) and Patrick (Josh O’Connor) in challengers.
However, many point out that it’s not a competition and both actors are just doing their jobs.
Stop being weirdo.
