Virat Kohli should take on the role of mentor – Zaheer Khan

During the second test match between India and West Indies in Port of Spain, former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan emphasized the importance of Kohli taking on the role of mentor at this point in his career. Speaking to Jio Cinema, Zaheer expressed his belief that now that the captaincy duties are over, Kohli may consider taking on this role. He said:

“He is constantly involved in the game. I think those aspects are very important for him in the future. But it’s so good to see him in a good space and score points. I think he just has to do that now.”

It should be noted that Kohli now has the captaincy duties behind him, can mentor and guide the younger players in the Indian squad which boasts talents like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan. Zaheer highlighted the same aspect, talking about the importance of this mentorship role for Kohli and how it would keep him engaged and motivated.

Zaheer also went on to say it’s good to see Kohli in a good space and score points. For the inexperienced, Kohli scored a half-century in the first Test match and a century in the second Test match against the West Indies. He said:

“He should enjoy this part of his career where he actually gets to mentor young people like Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan. That mentoring role is expected of him at this stage of his career, something he’s doing anyway, but you know it keeps you going and in the game,”
